Choir Grows As We Sing Through A Pandemic

What an exciting year of growth it has been for SDCC. Despite the setbacks we’ve faced with Covid, the Choir experienced significant growth this year. Both our Ensemble and Early Years programs experienced record breaking enrollment and we expanded the number of rehearsal locations from 5 to 7 countywide.

Nothing makes us happier than reaching more kids in San Diego! We know the value of high quality music education for young children and by placing programs across the county, offering needs-based scholarships and providing free outreach programming in Title 1 schools, we had almost 1,200 kids learning music, singing and enjoying the benefits of music education this year. Of those children, 67% received tuition-free instruction or in-school programming funded by grants and donations.

So yes, your contributions make a big difference! But don’t just take our word for it.  Here are some comments from current choristers who participate in our Ensemble program.

“The Choir has brought me joy and got me through stuff that was really difficult and I wouldn’t be the person I am today if I didn’t have music.”

“The Choir showed me that I want music to be in my life, that music needs to be in everyone’s life, and it’s taught me a lot about working with others. Ms. Millgard says to listen louder than you sing, not just when you sing, be optimistic and listen to other people’s opinions and views and work together.”

“The experience of singing for SDCC gives me unique and powerful opportunities that I wouldn’t otherwise have.”
