Our Preparatory Choir is our youngest ensemble level for beginning singers/music readers and requires no audition. The choir performs locally 4-5 times per year, allowing your child the chance to shine.

Weekly Rehearsal Schedule and Locations
Meets one time a week from September 2 through December 8, 2024 for the Fall Semester and January 26 through June 8, 2025 for the Spring Semester at the following locations. Parents select their preferred site upon registration.
Monday: 5:00–6:00 p.m. La Mesa/Grossmont
Tuesday: 3:15–4:15 p.m. Del Mar
Tuesday: 4:30–5:30 p.m. Del Mar

NOTE FOR NEW STUDENTS SPRING 2025: For students enrolling for the first time with little or no previous music reading instruction, we strongly recommend signing up for the winter music reading intensive. Because most students participate in choir for the full academic year, this class is helpful in ensuring that your child will feel prepared when rehearsals begin.
Curriculum
Weekly rehearsals consist of up to 20 students at each site, with the full choir gathering at least once per semester
Children joining Preparatory Choir typically have little to no prior musical experience
They learn basic vocal techniques such as posture, resonance and breathing, sight-reading and performance skills, including choreography
They sing unison and two-part repertoire in multiple languages
Performances and other events
Introductory participation at two major SDCC concerts per year (Winter and Spring) with auditioned upper level choirs
Two "All Together" rehearsals per semester (for all five sites to rehearse together)
2-3 additional performances per semester, mostly optional
Tuition and Fees
$495 per semester
Annual Registration Fee* ($45) + Uniform Purchase (SDCC t-shirt, black slacks or skirt, jeans and shoes) + Concert Tickets ($0-$45 per concert)
Need-based scholarships available to qualifying families
