Anna Thorvaldsdottir's "METACOSMOS" plunges the listener into a vast maelstrom of cosmic forces tugging in all directions until finally colliding into what the composer calls "unified chaos," followed by George Walker's "Lyric for Strings" and Margaret Bonds' "The Montgomery Variations." The concert will conclude with John Adams's profound and reflective masterpiece, "On the Transmigration of Souls," written in the year following the September 11 attacks in New York City. This will be the first time the work has been performed in San Diego.
